Brainrot movies deserve better: Biggest Bollywood Confession

I hate to admit it but I love the comical face-off between Rahul and Meenama during the train sequence in Chennai Express and yes i know it by heart. Let’s be honest we all love at least one Brainrot movie that we can rewatch without getting bored of it. But wait, before we continue this gloriously absurd rabbit hole, let’s make sure we are on the same page. In School book terms, Brainrot movies is a film category where logic leaves the chat, music is selectively banger, absurd plots and dialogues are meme worthy. So yes your favorite comedy movie is not a brainrot movie, rather an excellent piece of writing with an exceptional performance of an actor because humor is the hardest emotion to evoke and Mr. Priyadarshan Soman Nair is good at it.

While the term “Brainrot”  itself was Oxford word of the year in 2024,  Salman Khan is determined to ensure the terms remain culturally relevant, churning Brainrot movies one after another. In the recent years he might have signed movies which seemed rushed and underdeveloped but Dabangg has to be our favorite franchise. Let it be a group planning a heist but deviating the plan midway to win a dance show or a man travelling back in time to fix his parents’ terrible love story or just Tiger Shroff getting out of a car in an unhinged manner, the list never ends so does the list of Brainrot movies. If i have to rank it, Chennai Express takes the top spot as previously mentioned, followed by Golmaal Again and Tees Maar Khan.

Briainrot Underrated

These movies have rather delivered us a very meme worthy social media content, poor performance and dialogues are circulated as jokes. So, here’s the harsh truth,  the larger than life hero formula doesn’t work all the time. These films and filmmakers heavily rely on sequels which is again,  a mass production of brainrot films.

Not to raise concern but the type of media we consume is largely responsible for how we move forward in life. We as a consumer should be conscious about our media consumption. But again not everyone is perfect, so is the bollywood industry.  A lot of brainrot movies do really well at the box office. To justify the statement, often the  star is bigger than the movie, logic may collapse but the star power remains undefeated. Therefore, regardless of the narrative fans will show up in the theatre. Punchy dialogues, loud comedy and exaggerated villains are the safer formula for the producers and Rohit Shetty. This movie genre thrives on a simple promise, turn off your mind and enjoy the chaos in simple terms, our guilty pleasure.

Reel life and real life might not always mirror each other but the good news is, good cinema does exist which proves bollywood can still deliver a strong storyline. our relationship with brainrot movies feels like a classic love-hate saga, we hate to see it coming but secretly enjoy it.
