Move over, caped crusaders and web-slinging legends—Malayalam Cinema just dropped its own superhero bombshell, and her name is Lokah! Released on 28th August, Lokah: Chapter 1, Chandra has already stormed the box office, crossing the magical ₹100 crore mark in record time. And here’s the kicker — it’s South India’s first female superhero-led film to achieve this feat. Girl power, but make it Malayalam Cinema!

Front and centre is Kalyani Priyadarshan, who’s clearly having the best Onam of her life. On Instagram, she confessed that she doesn’t fully understand what’s happening, but called it “the best Monday of my life.” Honestly, when your film becomes the third fastest Malayalam movie to hit ₹100 crore, you don’t need to understand — you just need to celebrate.

Why Everyone’s Talking About Lokah

Written and directed by Dominic Arun, Lokah doesn’t look like your average “budget-tight” Malayalam flick. Nope, this one’s slick, stylish, and sparkling with polish. The Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions are performing brilliantly, and all eyes are now on 4th September 2025, when the Hindi version lands. Will North India embrace Kalyani’s superhero avatar? Judging by the current hype, the answer is absolutely yes.

And let’s not forget the delightful cameos sprinkled throughout the film. Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, and Dulquer Salmaan pop in to surprise fans, while Sandy Master brings the villainous energy. Add Jakes Bejoy’s thumping soundtrack and Dulquer’s rich production values, and you’ve got a movie that feels way bigger than its label.

Of course, no superhero story is complete without a little drama off-screen. A dialogue in Lokah rubbed a section of Karnataka audiences the wrong way, sparking outrage. Ever the gentleman, producer Dulquer Salmaan issued a heartfelt apology, clarifying it was an unintentional slip and promising the line will be corrected. A storm in a teacup, but hey — what’s a blockbuster without a bit of controversy?

With more than 300 extra shows added across Kerala just days after release, the craze is real. Fans are already chanting for Lokah: Chapter 2, and given the smashing success, the makers might just fast-track it. For now, Mollywood can proudly say: their female superhero wears a saree, kicks butt, and owns the box office.
